Elena (Baronas) Swain of Abington, age 87, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021. Born and raised in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Julius Joseph Sr. and Elena (Savicunas) Baronas. Sister of the late Dr. Julius Baronas Jr. and hir late wife Patricia (White). Wife of the late William W. Swain.
Elena attended St. Patrick High School and later went on to receive her Bachelors and Master’s degrees from Boston College. She worked for many years as an educator in the Brockton Public Schools, specializing in reading development. An avid reader and history buff. She was a lifelong learner, always aware of current events and eager to discuss them. She enjoyed traveling, the theatre and the occasional pillow fight with her nieces and nephews. She was an independent woman, at a time when it wasn’t always easy for women to be independent. She was devoted to her family and always kept up with her friends.
Elena is survived by her sister in law, Dolores Baronas of Rockland. Niece, Marisa Baronas of Plymouth, Nephews, Barry Baronas of Kingston and his wife, Palestina, Brad Baronas of Plymouth and his wife, Anna. And her great nephews and nieces Kai and Aaron, Adelyn and Willa, as well as several cousins, their children and the niece of her late husband, Beth Westcott.
The family would like to thank Abigail from North River Home Care and Carol Sherwood for the wonderful care they provided to Elena, that allowed her to remain safely at her home this past year.
A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday February 11 at St. Bridget Church, 455 Plymouth Street, Abington at 9am. Please go directly to church and St. Bridget Church is currently operating at a 50 person capacity. Interment Calvary Cemetery , Brockton.
