Elizabeth Jane Gately

Elizabeth J. Gately (Betty) 76, of Abington, MA passed away on July 17, 2023 after a brief illness. 

Betty was born on February 11, 1947 to John and Claire Figlewicz. Betty grew up in Randolph with her parents and sister. After graduating high school, she started her career at the Boston Globe where she met her husband Robert J. Gately. 

After living in Squantum for the first years of their marriage, they moved their young daughters to Abington where Betty has resided for the past 40 years. 

As Betty’s girls got older, she took at job at her children’s school. Saint Bridget in Abington, where she worked for 20 plus years both as a teachers aide and Director/Founder of their After School Program until she retired in 2017. 

Betty was a dedicated mom and grandmother and loved vacations with her family to Cape Cod, New Hampshire and Disney world to name a few. 

She had a strong passion for food and cooking and her family always thought she should have owned a restaurant. 

In her retired years, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family, watching her favorite shows on Netflix and dining out especially, for lobster and seafood at all the local restaurants the south shore has to offer. 

Preceded in death by her parents John and Claire Figlewicz, and her loving Husband Robert J Gately. 

She is also survived by her two daughters Jennifer (Gately) Clark  and her husband Matthew of Whitman, MA and Christine ( Gately) Robbins and her husband Scott of Abington, MA. Also survived by her four favorite people on earth, her grandchildren. Christopher and Hailey Robbins of Abington and Madeline and Jack (Robert) Clark. Of Whitman. And by her sister Karen Sullivan and her late husband Janes of Norwell and their children and grandchildren. 

Loving mother, aunt, cousin and friend, she will be greatly missed. 

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday July 22 at 10:30 AM at St Bridget's Church Abington. Interment to follow at St. Patricks Cemetery in Rockland. 

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betty’s name to Saint Bridget School.
