Grace Frances Spalding Bodwell Darrow died February 15, 2021, age 99, at Linden Ponds Senior Living,
Hingham, Mass. She was born October 14, 1921 in Guilford, Conn. “Frankie” raised three daughters in
Sharon, Mass. with her first husband, Gareth Palmer Bodwell, who passed in 1962 in an accident at work.
Her second husband, Elliott Slayton “Bud” Darrow, whom she married in 1967, died of lung cancer in
1984. Since 2006 she has been a resident of Linden Ponds in Hingham, Mass.
Frances led a long life of gardening and crafting, taking special pleasure in sewing and knitting for her
family. She found work in offices and volunteered at Sharon Historical Society, Sharon Public Library,
the Dorcas Society of the Congregational Church, and as President of the Fortnightly Club. She was well-
read and traveled on five continents. At Linden Ponds she volunteered in the library. Frances is survived
by three daughters: Joan and husband Jerry Metz, of Addison, Maine, and Joan’s children Todd Langton,
Heather Wiles and Dean Langton, and their children Cal Given, Troy, Elli, Cal Wiles, Sarah, and Willow;
Sally and husband Jan Williams, of Hiram, Maine; Susan Purnell, of Marstons Mills, Mass., and
daughters Stephanie and Emily and their children Riley, Sam, Mina and Natalie; and step-son Bill Darrow
and wife Fran of Vienna, Virginia, and children Tom and Beth and their children Cameron, Ian and
Tristan.
Funeral arrangements are by Quealy Son Funeral Home, Abington MA.
A celebration of life is planned on the occasion of her 100th birthday, October 14, 2021.
