Francis J. “Frank” Giniewicz of Abington, former Abington Selectman, passed April 16, 2020, at the age of age 93.
Loving son of the late Charles and Paulina (Geijnor) Giniewicz; Beloved husband of the late Jean E. (Doonan) Giniewicz; Loving father of Francis J Giniewicz Jr..of Brockton, Lee A Casey of Abington, Debra Ripley of Abington, Mary Beth Emond and husband Dennis of Abington, Patricia J MacMillan and husband Donald of Brockton, and Alison Giniewicz-Curney and husband Richard of Abington and the late Thomas Giniewicz; Beloved brother of John Giniewicz and wife Cindy, and the late Charles, William, and Anthony Giniewicz, Doris Wallent, Mary Simonds, Stella Valentonis, Rachel Gilbert, and Catherine Giniewicz. Also, survived by 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
He graduated from Abington High School and attended Massasoit Community college and Northeastern University. Frank served in the Navy in WWII in the Pacific Theater between 1944-1946.
He served 25 years in public office, three years for the zoning board of Appeals and 22 years on the board of Selectman of which he was chairman from 1974 to 1990. He served on the Old Colony Planning Board. He was a past member of the Tri- Town Alumni in St. Petersburg, FL, Snow Birds, St. Bridget Choir, VFW Post 5737, Abington Lions club, and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Also, past member of Mass Selectman’s Municipal Association. He served on the Budget Advisory Committee and served on the Bicentennial and Tricentennial Committees.
Frank worked for the New England Telephone Company as a lineman and later as a supervisor.
Frank loved baseball; he was a coach, manager, and past president of the Abington Little League for 38 years. He received the Golden Diamond Amateur Coaching Award in 1994 from USA Baseball as an outstanding coach in the state. He also received in 1995 the Abington’s Best Award.
After retirement Frank and Jean traveled multiple times to Hawaii, purchased a condo in Florida and became a “Snow Bird”. After retiring Frank also worked for the Plymouth District Attorney’s office and Ridders Country Golf club. He continued to play golf and shuffleboard.
