John Powell Haverly, 74, passed away May 12, 2022 surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. Born June 25, 1947, John was the son of the late Henry and Mary (Collins) Haverly. He is survived by his sister, Charlotte Buckley , of Abington, MA, his brother, Henry Haverly and sister in law Carol of Lakeville, MA, and Hobe Sound, FL; Nieces Christine Ortega of East Bridgewater, MA, Maureen Buckley of Abington, MA, Mary Deschamps of Abington, MA and Erin Burton of Whitman, MA. He is also survived by many grandnieces, grandnephews and a great grandniece. John was predeceased by his brother in law, Robert Buckley.
John was born in South Boston and educated and lived in Quincy for many years. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served during the Vietnam era, stationed in Korea. John was a devote Catholic and his religion was an important part of his life. He enjoyed creative activities and writing poems.
Visitation will be held at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home 116 Adams Street, Abington on Monday May 16 from 4 to 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday May 17 at 10:30am in St. Bridget Church, Abington. Interment will follow at the MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
