Kenneth Hitchcock Jr. Obituary

Kenneth M. Hitchcock, Jr. 94 passed away peacefully on April 22,2024 at his son Steven and daughter In Law's home, where he resided for the last 2 years. He was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine and grew up in Bangor. He graduated from Bangor High School in the class of 1948, served in the National Guard until 1953. He married Joyce Ann Tolman of Brewer and moved south to Abington, MA where he found employment at a major Ice Cream Manufacturing plant called Bay State Ice Cream in Abington. On the side he learned the Television repair trade in a night school at MIT and soon after opened a business from the basement of his home in Abington. His business was growing when the Ice Cream business went out of business.

He purchased a grocery store called Joe's Market on North Ave. in Abington in 1971 and after remodeling, the Grand opening on St. Patricks Day 1972 of Ken's Television, Inc.. The business soon earned a reputation of selling the best televisions and the repair service at competitive prices. The whole family was employed in the business over the years until the closing on June 30, 2005. Ken was 75 years old and the" All Time MVP Employee" Allan Haas of South Wevmouth was 76. Not only was age a factor on closing the business, but the business became unsustainable as the prices of a new were cheaper than repairing an old TV. Plus competition of Big Box stores.

His wife Joyce passed away in 1985 from cancer. Years later married Rosemary Pasquale of Quncy. She passed away from cancer, as well in 1994.

Kenneth was the second oldest of 9 siblings, he was the loving brother to the late Glornie Conant from ME,  late Clayton Hitchcock from FL,   late Gail Crump from GA, late Roger Hitchcock from TX ,  late Gerry Hitchcock from FL.  He was surived by his sister Kathy and her husband Derek White of Winterport, ME, Sue and her husband Dave Harnish of Bangor, ME, Sue Selzer and her husband Thom of FL. and Brother Ken Severence and his wife Brynn of FL.

Kenneth leaves behind his daughter Dawn Nisby and friend Molly Ball of Humarock, daughter Kendra and husband Tom Murphy of Bridgewater, son Paul Hitchcock and wife Kathy of Abington, and son Steven Hitchcock and wife Pauline of South Weymouth.

Kenneth has 12 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren who he loved and enjoyed very much. He has many nieces and nephews in various states.

He and his business were widely known and highly respected, made many friends, and helped many along his journey, even to his final days. He enjoyed watching and attending Abington High School football and basketball games and was especially proud of the talented athletes in his family. He enjoyed the beautiful home he built in Abington and lived in for 28 years.

His wishes are: No viewing, to be cremated and layed to rest beside his wife Joyce at the Mount Vernon Cemetery in Abington. There will be a Celebration of Life for the family and relatives in the near future.
