Nancy Jane Goodwin (Alves), age 95, died peacefully at St. Joseph Manor on Monday, June 19th after a struggle with dementia. She was the loving widow of Thomas J. Goodwin, daughter of Virginia and Benjamin Alves. She was the eldest daughter of seven siblings.
Born November 7, 1927, in San Antonio, Texas, she moved to Massachusetts in 1945 with her husband Tom, as a new wife and mother. The couple lived briefly in Hough’s Neck before settling in Braintree, where she lived 64 years. She worked for Sigma Instruments, Stop & Shop Bakery in Braintree, and volunteered at Union Street School in Weymouth and St. Francis of Assisi School in Braintree. She was a breast cancer survivor. She was an avid gardener and had a gift for making plants grow. She was a devote Catholic who was a loyal parishioner of St. Claire’s of Braintree. Nancy will forever be remembered during the holidays for her cranberry pie.
Nancy is survived by three children, Linda, Thomas and Christine. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, David, Ralph, Matthew, Christopher, Allison, Amy, Jonathan, Michael, and eight great-grandchildren, Kira, Max, Aiden, Sophie, Duncan, Jonathan, Aoife, Camille, and by her sister-in-law, Angela Goodwin of Millis.
Services will take place in the month of October. Dates and donation details to be announced at a later date.
