Paul E. Nichols, long-time resident of Abington, passed away on April 29, 2023 after a short but hard-fought battle with acute myeloid leukemia. His kindness, humor, and level-headedness will be greatly missed. Paul was the son of the late Elizabeth (Shea) and Robert E. Nichols, Sr. of Abington.
Paul is reunited with his beloved wife of 42 years, Marianne (Hickey) Nichols. Paul was the loving father to Ann-Marie Hallagan and her husband Palmer of Plainville, MA. He was the devoted grandfather of Abigail and Emma Hallagan. Paul is also survived by his sister-in-law and dear friend Christine Hickey of Abington. Paul will be missed by many nieces and nephews, all of whom he was very proud. He was predeceased by his sister Eunice Sanna, and brother Robert E. Nichols, Jr.
Paul was born in Mission Hill Boston in 1938 and attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Mission Grammar School. His family later moved to Abington where he graduated from Abington High in 1956. Paul went on to attend Wentworth Institute for a year and served in the Army Reserve. Paul began his career as a truck driver for the Teamsters Union and drove throughout the northeastern states for 35 rewarding years.
Paul was an active member of the Abington American Legion Post 112, where he served as the Post’s Sergeant-at-Arms. He was an incredibly talented woodworker and could recreate a piece of furniture just by looking at a picture. Paul was an avid crossword puzzler and enjoyed golf and loved watching the Boston Red Sox.
Visitation will be held at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home 116 Adams Street, Abington on Friday, May 5th from 4 to 7 PM. A funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday at 11:00 AM, followed by a burial at St. Patricks Cemetery, Rockland.
