Robert Henry Dano of Whitman, a loving brother, uncle, teacher, coach, author, artist and musician, passed away April 27 at the age of 72. Robert was born November 7, 1948 in Eggenfelden, Bavaria, Germany to Alexander and Gitta Dano.
The family moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1949. He grew up in Quincy, after moving there at 11 years old, finally settling in Whitman 10 years ago. Robert was very active in Boy Scout Troop 33 and was a founding member.
Robert got his BS in Biology from University of Rochester and his MS in Limnology from University of Rhode Island. He taught Biology at Quincy and Massasoit Colleges. Robert was also the Varsity High School Soccer coach for N Quincy for several years as well as coaching for the Quincy Youth Soccer program. Robert had a passion for art, nature, music, and family. He played a major role at Covenant Congregational in Quincy doing everything from being chairman, running youth programs, choir, flower arrangements and custodian.
The Dano family owned and operated the Austro-Hungarian Dining Room restaurant in W Harwich for 11 years from 1966 to 1977, where Robert was head chef.
Robert is survived by brother Gustav G. Dano, and wife Beth and their daughters Kristen, Sarah and Katherine of Abington and sister Maria Dano-Graves, and husband Gary and their children Alex and Kristiana of Littleton. Loving brother of the late Martha, Luisa, and Frankie.
A graveside service will be held Monday May 3rd at 11 am at Blue Hills Cemetery in Braintree. The family requests that those attending should wear bright colored clothing.
