Robert D. O'Neill

Robert “Bob” D. O’Neill of Abington, passed peacefully at home on April 10, 2020 at age 77. Devoted husband of Claire O’Neill of Abington, beloved father of Kevin O’Neill and wife Heather, cherished grandfather of Jameson and Jackson O’Neill, and loving brother of Tom O’Neill.

Bob worked at Boston Edison for over 30 years and later at South Shore Hospital for over 15 years. He was a member of the UWUA Local 369, IUOE Local 877, and a proud member of the JP Ryan’s Community.

An avid sports fan, Bob enjoyed watching his grandsons play youth football, basketball, and baseball. You would often find him cheering on the sidelines, beaming with pride. With an exceptional ear for music, Bob was passionate about playing the guitar, listening to local musicians and sometimes moonlighting as a back-up singer. On Sundays between 5-8 pm you would find him at JP Ryan’s nodding his head and tapping his fingers to the music, with a beer in his hand and a smile on his face. 

Caring for others was something Bob did exceptionally well. He was a loyal and faithful friend to all. He will be sadly missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. 

Services and burial at St. Joseph Cemetery will be private due to COVID-19. 

Family and friends will honor and remember Bob’s life by gathering for a Funeral Mass at a later date.
