Obituary

Wayne Norling of Abington passed away surrounded by his loving family at South Shore Hospital on June 26, 2023, at the age of 90. Born in Quincy, Wayne was the beloved son of the late Walter and Blanche Norling. He was predeceased by his siblings Milton Norling, Donald Norling, and Eveyln “Sissy” Norling. Wayne served in the U.S. Navy for 1 day shy of three years as a fireman on LST 270 in Squadron 4. After his time in the service, Wayne was a bricklayer for the Local 4 Union and retired from the Abington Park and Recreation Department. On July 8, 1956, Wayne married the love of his life Elizabeth (White) Norling and they shared nearly 67 wonderful years together. Wayne was the loving father to Wayne Norling II and his wife Diane (Hartford) of Abington, Patricia (Norling) Stagliola and her husband Michael of Middleboro, Kenneth Norling and his partner Faith Gakio of Boxboro, and his daughter-in-law Deanna of Florida. Wayne was predeceased by his eldest son Richard Norling.

Wayne was the loving grandfather to seven grandchildren: Sara (Norling) Plymale and her husband Jonathan, Wayne Norling III and his partner Delaney Cullen, Samantha (Norling) Martorano and her husband David, Laura (Stagliola) Rankin and her husband Douglas, Matthew Stagliola and his wife Mary (Edwards), Bethany Norling, and Ethan Norling. Wayne will be missed by his six great grandchildren: David Martorano, Lorenzo Martorano, Evelyn Martorano, Jackson Plymale, Wyatt Plymale, and Wayne Norling IV.

Wayne could always be found working in his garden and yard as he took great pride in showcasing many different types of flowers, trees, and shrubs. He was known around town for the best heirloom tomatoes at his vegetable stand as well as a constant supply of seasoned firewood bins out in front of his house. Wayne was still splitting firewood when he turned 90 years old last November. Spending quality time with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren was one of his greatest joys. Wayne especially loved Sunday morning drives and exploring many different parts of Massachusetts with his son Wayne. He was a proud Abington resident for the last 64 years and was well known throughout the town for his quick wit and humor. Wayne always enjoyed making people laugh.

Wayne will be missed by all, and his memories will live on forever.

A visitation will be held at Quealy Funeral Home on Saturday July 8th  from 9-11 AM. Followed by a funeral home service at 11 AM. Interment to follow  at Mt Vernon Cemetery Abington.
