John C. Berlinguet Jr.

           April 10 1927 ~ December 19, 2018

John peacefully joined the Communion of Saints, Wednesday December 19, 2018 after a prolonged illness.  John grew up in the house that his maternal grandfather built in St. Brendan’s parish in Dorchester.  He attended the Boston School system, and graduated from Boston Latin School. During World War II he enlisted in the US Navy, and proudly served aboard the USS Alabama.  On his return he graduated from MIT as a Civil Engineer Class of ’52, and worked at MIT’s Lincoln Laboratories. He was introduced to June T McCarthy also of Dorchester.  They wed and the growing family moved  to Wollaston in 1960, and 20 years ago moved to Abington. John worked as a civil engineer for Star Market, DS Kennedy Antenna of Cohasset, GTE Sylvania, Massachusetts State College System, and returned  to MIT where he retired 12 years later.  In his career, John was part of a team that designed satellite earth stations and he would oversee their construction and implementation all over the world. John belonged to several fraternal organizations The Knights of Columbus, The American Legion , was a lecture at St. Bridget’s Church, and a member of the St.Vincent De Paul’s Food Pantry in Abington.

   John leaves behind his wife June T. (McCarthy) Berlinguet, his children and their spouses Jean M (Berlinguet) Katarowski and her Husband Jay, John (Jack) C Berlinguet III and his wife Mary, Nancy (Berlinguet) Glover and her Husband James, Paul J Berlinguet and his wife Laurie, and Joseph H Berlinguet and his wife Elsa. John also leaves behind his nine grand children and three great grand children.

   The Family would like to extend it’s most heartfelt gratitude to the Doctors and Nurses of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute Weymouth and the Doctors and Nurses in South Shore Hospital’s Emerson 3 who are the most amazing, compassionate people we have ever met.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent De Paul’s Food Pantry 425 Plymouth St. Abington MA 02351 or The MIT Class of 1952 Scholarship Fund 77 Massachusetts Ave. Cambridge MA 021239-4307

A funeral mass will be held Friday December 28 at 9am in St. Bridget Church, 455 Plymouth St., Abington.
