Nancy Cavanagh Obituary

Nancy Cavanagh of Nashua, NH, formerly of Abington, MA passed away at home on May 21, 2021 at the age of 82.

She graduated from Weymouth High School, and married the love of her life, the late Richard E. Cavanagh, in 1957, together until his death in 2001 after 44 years of marriage.

Nancy settled in Abington, where she became involved with the Planning Board, Council on Aging, and led the South Shore Senior Chorus.

She graduated from Wheaton College in 1980 with a major in Music, Summa Cum Laude, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

For many years, she was the administrator of the Music section within the Department of Humanities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Nancy was full of life and put great energy into many different pursuits. Nancy loved her friends, food, travel, kitties; playing card, board, and online games; and enjoyed her summer home on Swan’s Island, spending many hours picking berries and clamming among other pursuits, but music was her passion, loving to sing and play guitar.

She leaves her sons Stephen Cavanagh and his wife Karen, of Tyngsboro, MA; Paul Cavanagh and his wife Heather, of Wells, ME; grandchildren Adam Cavanagh and his wife Kate, of York, ME; Daniel Cavanagh of Rochester, NH; Jason Cavanagh of Nashua, NH; Amy Cavanagh of Wilder, VT; and Travis Cavanagh of Wells, ME; and her two great-grandchildren Riley Cavanagh and Shayna Cavanagh, also of York, ME.

In addition, she leaves her former daughter-in-law Maureen Cavanagh of Springvale, ME, nephew David Urban, niece Kathleen Walsh, nephew Mark Urban, and niece Judy Flynn.

She was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Eleanor Trudeau, her sister Constance Flynn, and her brother-in-law Joseph Cavanagh.

Visitation will be held at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home 116 Adams Street, Abington Tuesday May 25 from 5 to 7pm, followed by a funeral service. Interment will take place at a later date in Swan's Island, ME. Please sign online guestbook www.quealyandson.com
