Mrs. Jean E. Kelly (Babine) wife of the late John L. Kelly, passed away peacefully at home on March 28, 2024, in Whitman, Massachusetts, at the age of 92. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Jean was born in Wilmington, Massachusetts, on June 5, 1931. Jean was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and GiGi. She was known for her sweet and kind demeanor, Jean was a well-loved resident of Whitman, and she could always be seen with a smile on her face. Jean was a woman of faith, and had a passion for dancing, especially the Jitterbug. Jean adored Christmas and Halloween, enjoyed playing Bingo, occasional visits to the casino, bowling, and ice skating. She was also a wonderful cook, delighting her family with home cooked meals.
Jean is survived by her children, Jean Connell and her husband Jerry of Hanson, Eileen Timoney, Patricia Lundrigan, Maureen Jarrett and husband Mike, and son Charlie Higgins and wife Mary, all of Whitman, Colleen Evers and husband John of Middleboro. Jean was the adored Grandmother of Jerry and Adam Connell, Aine Dineen, Seamus and Roisin Timoney, Amy McLaughlin, Danielle and Patrick Lundrigan, Michael and Charlie Jarrett, Charlie Higgins, Kelli Armstrong, Sean and Ryan Quirk, and Marita Roblee, also 21 great-grandchildren. Jean is also survived by her sister Emily Dukus of Wilmington, May Jones of Wilmot, New Hampshire, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Michael Higgins, father Joseph and mother Florence Babine, sister Rita, and brothers Edward, Bernard, and Henry.
She graduated from Wilmington High School, Class of 1949 and pursued a career at Boston Financial. Jean worshipped at Holy Ghost Church in Whitman, Massachusetts. Her hobbies included Bingo, bowling, playing cards, a retro tv enthusiast (I Love Lucy and Andy Griffith) and volunteering at the Pine Street Inn.
A Visitation will be held at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, Abington, on Wednesday April 3rd from 4PM to 8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Ghost Church in Whitman, on Thursday April 4th at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Quincy.
