At a time like this, I don't know what to say beyond these words from Abraham Lincoln to a mother who lost all of her sons to the civil war.  May it bring you some sense of peace.  God bless Daniel, his family and all of our men and women who put their lives on the line for our freedoms.

Executive Mansion,
Washington, Nov. 21, 1864.

Dear Madam,

I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

A. Lincoln

Dear Vasselian Family & Friends,

I want to send my deepest sympathy as well as my thoughts and prayers to all of you during this difficult time.  There are no magic words to make the pain go away but please know that we are all standing beside you as we support our troops and the sacrifices made not only by them but their families and friends.  I can't express how grateful I am for Daniel's service and unfortunately his ultimate sacrifice.  I wish I had a magic word that would make the pain go away but the only word that comes close is time.  Time will heal and I hope that the support from friends and the community helps you through.  Stay strong and again know that you are not alone, we support our troops and their families for all they give up for our freedom.  God bless all of you and may Daniel rest in peace and continue to watch over and protect you from above as he did while here with you.

If Daniel could ... he would say:

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As written by a friend.

Gentle thoughts spray was sent by Thomas and Margaret Hayden.

The brief time our families were stationed together, we were very fortunate to have had. Danny inspired many to laugh, and his company was always enjoyed. Our house is heart broken that he has left this earth far to early. Our condolences are with Erin, and the family of Danny. We may travel the world but it only take one tragedy to bring us all back to each other. Your are in our hearts, minds, and prayers. Sincerely, Thomas and Margaret Hayden
